Three Year Recap

Time has flown. Kilometres have been eaten and dreams dispelled. For three years now people we know and care about have said we are ‘living the dream’. Actually we are living in reality.

Those same people have stayed in their fixed abode and we have continued moving about. Both of us, the ones in the fixed abode and us, the ones in the moving machine are happy. Why?

The easy answer is that we are all different. The tricky thoughts are that Peter and I used to be happy living in a fixed house. We both enjoyed working on the upkeep of the property and we were proud of our home. We were pleased to raise our children in one place and we were pleased to be able to accommodate other family members and friends at times. We loved large family gatherings and loved that we could celebrate family milestones at ‘our place.’

Now there is no space for guests to stay. I am always concerned that family members have either to hire accommodation or pitch a tent if they want to visit. Parties can still be had but revolve around the barbeque, on a patch of grass or gravel.

Why are we still happy?

There is still upkeep to perform on our caravan. As we want to maintain our health we cannot ignore doing daily cleaning tasks or paying for yearly maintenance checks on our abode. Bills still accumulate. Life still has its ups and downs.

Why do we want to continue experiencing these ups and downs in a 8 by 2 metal box?

As with the many, many other people who are doing this in New Zealand we are all confused. Confused but yet happy.
