Barbecuing

To barbecue or not? That is the question I ask most days as I look at the sky. Living on the West Coast for twenty years meant we had a permanent barbecue area in our garage. Now that we are following the sun the situation has changed. Whenever the planets align and by this I mean barbecue, weather and Peter, out we go.

When we first had the thought of buying a caravan we rushed to the webber outlet. Caravan equaled webber in all the advertisements we had seen and we wanted one. I am not sure what made us hesitate as we stared at the cast iron sculpture. Could have been the price. Could have been the round shape that looked like it would take up a lot of space. Might have been the many attachments needed to be purchased to fully engage the mothership. Whatever the reason, we walked away from that first viewing money still intact.

Peter, being a boy scout from way back, determined on a different tack other than buying a barbecue. He decided he preferred a cooker. He also decided to save money. Hence the first cooker he bought did the job for a short time but then its legs fell off and Peter got sick of the fat running down the sides. The second cooker was a bit dearer and had two hotplates and a gutter for the fat to run off. However, not being the deluxe model the pans to go on it had to be purchased separately. These separately purchased pans never slotted onto the cooker exactly. Manfully Peter put up with the irritation of meat sliding off and uneven cooking for a couple of years and countless brunches and lunches. Then a big birthday arrived. At the same time he had noticed an ad for the deluxe cooker model at the RV Centre.

So now we are the owners of a ‘Dometic, 2 Cook 3, Pro’ cooker. It had its first outing and seemed to cook the chops to perfection. Nothing is guaranteed but here’s hoping this deluxe model and ourselves interact seamlessly for many years to come.
