Public Transport

Who’d know that in my lifetime of driving or taking lifts, getting on a bus would be so gratifying.

Peter and I are both gratified that public transport for the over 65’s is free. We are also gratified that it is relatively easy to navigate to unknown places and that the drivers of these welcome vehicles are generally pleasant.

We have kept up with new technology, thank goodness.  I did decry using apps in the last post, saying how difficult it was to fathom the information they were earnestly trying to bestow on me. However I now know that mastering one app leads to mastering another. And like everyone says it is practice that leads to success and you shouldn’t be afraid of new things.

So, after riding on the buses fairly successfully (using the transport app) around Hamilton for a week, I was able to quickly and competently use the Auckland train app to find our way to Eden Park the other night. Hooray!

Now I am looking forward to roaming around on the Christchurch buses and also using the  ‘Bee Card’ in Dunedin.

Also, am I right in thinking that by using public transport the planet is being saved in some small way?

  1. I’m loving my gold card too. I feel a bit smug getting on a bus, flashing my card to the driver and then not paying for the ride. One of the very few joys of getting older.
