I know the last two pieces have been about awnings but the topic isn’t finished yet. Awnings is a topic many caravanners and R.V. owners have a penchant to discuss. They have either had good or horrendous stories which they want to share. In the past I have had a penchant to swear when I think of our awning, the one that comes out from the side of the caravan. We had had it put on initially when first purchasing our caravan as everyone, ourselves included, knew we needed one.
It never provided much shade and could not be put up in the rain or wind, although it was fairly easy to take in and put out. That was one thing in its favour but one day when the wind decided to gust we weren’t quite quick enough. The awning ripped its moorings, blew over the roof and assaulted the occupants next door. The side of the caravan with the gaping mooring holes, where the awning used to sit, then became a conversation starter.
I was happy to not have another awning but I didn’t like the ripped look of the caravan side. So, after paying a sizable premium, the insurance company ensured another awning was attached.
That attachment has never been used. Shade is something you definitely need in this life but luckily we discovered the caravan throws its own shadow. We have learnt to sit in this and move our chairs as the day progresses. We also love a good tree.
Awning experiences are possibly not quite over as my husband recently saw a small one that just covers the door. Thinking of the oncoming winter rain and accompanying mud my ears pricked up!
